word work/spelling
We are using Flocabulary and the Words Their Way curriculum. Please work with your child on their weekly word sorts to ensure that they are learning important patterns. Students have a spelling or vocabulary test every Friday (of whole weeks) on their weekly word sort.

Writing
We are moving into nonfiction writing. Students will be writing a magazine article using text features. Students will focus on researching and putting their research in their own words.
Guided Reading
Students are given a reading level based on Reading 3D testing data. Students will be assessed at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. Based on this reading level, students will work in small groups to work on a variety of reading skills with teacher guidance. A large portion of guided reading will be working on written responses.
